Interior design in York
I’m based in York, so your house is never far away. Single rooms or whole homes, planned around how you live.
Designed for the house you have, not a show home
York houses come with character and quirks. There are tall Georgian rooms inside the walls and along Bootham, Victorian terraces in Clifton and South Bank with narrow halls and long, thin kitchens, and family homes out in Fulford, Heworth and Bishopthorpe that have to work hard every day.
Good interior design starts with the building and how you live in it. Then it brings in the colour, texture and detail that make it feel like yours.

Everything a room needs, planned together
- Layout. Where everything goes, so the room works as well as it looks.
- Colour and pattern. Walls, fabrics and wallpaper chosen as one scheme.
- Furniture. What to keep, what to refresh and what to replace.
- Lighting. Lamps and fittings layered for the way you use the room.
- The finishing touches. Window dressing, cushions and lamps, down to the door handles.
- Bringing it together. Sourcing, ordering and coordinating the decorators and trades, so the room comes together as planned.
You don't have to start from scratch
Most people aren’t starting with an empty house. There’s a dresser that came from a grandparent, or a sofa that’s too good to lose. I work out what stays, what gets refreshed and what’s replaced, so the room feels like one idea rather than a patchwork.
"Pip has been hugely helpful in planning our new kitchen and other changes we want to make to our house. Taking on board differing views and diplomatically steering us towards something we will all like and use. She works well with local trades and I would highly recommend her."

Period and listed houses in York
Many of York’s older houses are listed, which affects what you can change inside as well as out, from joinery to fireplaces. I regularly work with listed and period properties, keeping their character while making them comfortable to live in now. Where a change needs consent, it’s built into the plan from the start.

Interior design in York: common questions
How much does an interior designer cost in York?
It depends on the size of the project and how much you’d like me to do, from design only to full project management. I’ll talk through the scope with you first, then set out the cost clearly before any work starts.
Which parts of York do you cover?
All of it, from the city centre and Bootham to Clifton, Fulford, Heworth, Acomb and Bishopthorpe, plus the villages around York. I’m based in York, so nowhere in the city is far.
Can you work on a listed or period house in York?
Yes. I regularly work with listed and period properties. If your house is listed, some changes inside need listed building consent from City of York Council, so we check early and plan around it.
Do you organise the decorators and trades as well?
Yes, if you’d like me to. I can order everything and coordinate the decorators, joiners and other trades, or design the room and hand you the plan.
